Well maybe I wouldn't choke her (really I wouldn't), but I sure was ticked off at her. Upset enough that my heart was starting to race because I was getting so aggravated.
I'm a people person. I love chatting it up in the store with strangers. I greet people with a smile. So I know its not me causing these cashiers/managers to have attitudes. The people working in these stores are just GROUCHY! Seems to me, if you work with the public, you should at least be a tad bit friendly.
Anyway.. off my soap box and on to the story.
I read somewhere online that a memo had been sent out to all Kmart's to do the double coupons. My sister was going to Wise and stopping at Kmart. Michael and I were going to his parents house and they live about 10 minutes from Kmart. I just HAD to call and see if they were doing it (after the memo). I spoke with someone named Crystal. She said Yes, they were doing it. I was thrilled. After a few hours at his parents house, I mentioned going. Michael told me to go on and he would keep the boys there with him. So I headed out. I get there and as after reading a post on DS about someone shopping, getting to the register, and then being turned down; I stopped at the service desk to ask one more time. There was a Crystal working, but she said I had spoke with another Crystal earlier today. So this Crystal calls the manager (a man) and he says he will honor it because of the way it was stated that ALL Kmart's were doing it, but that really they weren't participating. He told her to have me come back to CS when I was done shopping and they would figure it out.
Fast forward.. this Kmart SUCKS!! Nothing was in the correct place or with the right price. I'm not exaggerating. Honestly.. everything in every isle was all out of whack. Took me way too long to find the right price/item. I was about to just quit and leave because it was really annoying not to be able to find a single item with the correct price. I swear they just sit the stuff where ever they want. They don't even try to put it with its tag. I know sometimes you will run into this if a certain department if they have had a sucky worker, but this was the entire store.
After a couple hours (and only a few items in my buggy) I decided to call it quits. I go to the CS desk and Crystal is there and there is an older lady named Sandra. Of course, being me I smile and say Hi. No smile or hi back. Just a dead stare at me, then snaps Can I Help You? I explain what I'm doing and that's when it starts. She grabs up a few pieces of paper that were stapled together and starts pointing to it. The conversation goes something like this
"We aren't suppose to be doing this."
"I know, but I asked and the manager said he would honor it."
"We aren't suppose to be doing this."
"I know, but I had called Kmart CS and they said all Kmart's could do it."
"We aren't suppose to be doing this."
"I know, but the manager said I could."
"Well we CAN do it, but its ALOT of trouble." *insert eye roll*
"I'm sorry. I'm just trying to save some money."
"Its about 20 steps to do this." *insert eye roll again*
"I'm sorry."
"Crystal, get over here and ring her up." *Stares at me and slaps her hand up on her hip*
So Crystal starts ringing me up on the 'returns' register. After all my items have been scanned, Sandra starts barking orders at Crystal on how to do it. Crystal tries and tries. It wont work. Sandra snaps "VOID IT ALL." Crystal does.
"COME OVER HERE!" She snaps at me.
I get my bags, go over to the other register, and the cashier that had been on that register hadn't signed out. Then she starts throwing a fit. Ranting and Raving. 15 minutes later she gets the register open. Someone else comes to the service desk, she walks away from me, over to them, and helps them, then comes back to me. While Crystal is standing there doing nothing.
Here we go, unbag all my stuff, ring it up, and she hits the wrong key, void it. Scan it all again, start doing the steps on the paper, she messes up again, void it. The last time she types all the items codes in by hand instead of scanning them. All the time she is huffing, puffing, and muttering under her breath.
It doesn't help that apparently the workers have to clock in and out on that register?? So there is a worker behind me whining about how she has to clock out. Sandra stops doing my transaction, lets the girl clock out, and comes back to me.
Finally we start with the Q's. I normally hand them one by one because its easier for me to keep an eye on whats been taken off, and what hasn't. She reaches over and snaps the Q's out of my hand and throws them down on the counter and starts scanning them. They wouldn't automatically double so she just rang up the q and then typed in another manufacturers coupon to take it off again. Several times she forgot to double it and I had to have her fix it. OMG. If looks could kill, I would have been dead.
She ran across a coupon for dog food that you had to buy 2 to get that amount off, I normally pay better attention, but I had only picked up one. Once she realizes that you have to buy 2 she starts acting like I'm trying to jip them. I just explain it was an accident, ask her to void that item off, and to give me back my coupon to use at another time. She starts huffing and puffing again, but voids it off. Finally she gives me my total. $23! I had not intention of spending that much.. had it figured up to be about $15 but I forgot about the 4 things of laundry detergent I put in my buggy at the last minute. I ask her if I can see the coupons. She slings them at me. I look through them and tally it up in my head. Should of had $64 in savings, and I did. I said thanks, I just wanted to be sure, because I was trying to save money. I hand the coupons back to her and she slings them down and walks off (before I pay) and once again helps another customer while Crystal stands there. Finally she comes back and I pay. She slams my stuff in bags and hands it to me.
I swear it was horrible. I was almost in tears by the time I got out of there. I was upset, aggravated, mad, hurt, humiliated all at once. Everyone around was watching what was going on. She was being so loud and acting like I was asking her to preform brain surgery. She had to be some sort of manager because she kept screaming half way across the store at a cashier to get back on her register. Maybe she was just having a bad day, I dunno. But I do know that I wont be going back to that Kmart to use coupons EVER again.

I am so sorry that happened to you! I am going in the morning and am going to test to see if they double it over $2. I will have my 3 kids plus my niece and dh so I won't have time for ignorance, lol!
Yes, they do double over $2 at some places. I know my sister said they told her that they would double any coupon as long as it was a good date and a valid coupon. She spent a little over $100 and saved $400+. She went to Wise, Va though.
Why didn't you ask to speak to a manager?! I would call kmart CS and let them know her name what how she was acting. I don't care how bad of a day she was having that was no excuse for her not to do HER JOB.

Honey you freakin need to seriously call customer service. I would have called this B**** out right there in the store cussing and yelling. I am appalled by the way she treated you. What is wrong with these type of people. She has no freakin business working in customer service. They get paid to put on their FAKE smile and treat their customers with respect, not trash them. Please call! I know you will but hopefully something comes out of this. Not sure how much like CVS they are but they better do something about this.
btw, our store here in so cal was NOT doubling over 2.00...I tried the electrosol q's.
Also, you shouldn't have said SORRY that many times...LOL you had nothing to be sorry for. ARGH!

I don't think double coupons are worth that much trouble/effort on your end - EVER! I would have just walked out.
On the flip side it seems as if she wanted to prove to you how HARD it was for them to double the coupons so it seems that she was creating all the issues just to stick it to you so you would just leave.
Hopefully you got some deals you wouldn't have gotten anywhere else.
I'm going back tomorrow only to use the 2/1 almay q in the beauty book because I have really been NEEDING eye makeup remover for a long time. Other than that it's not worth the time away from my family to do another haul at kmart - and my store IS doubling.
Kmart is doing this promotion to get customers in their stores, and then to keep them coming back. I'm sure CS will be very happy to know someone is treating you like this when you are legitimately participating in one of their "get more customers" promotion. Not to mention that you've posted it on the blogosphere and has confirmed to I'm sure thousands of people that Kmart still sucks....
Call CS and give them an earfull.
Wow, what a b*tch. I would so not ever go back to that store if it were me. Can you call their corporate office and report this incident? You did nothing wrong. At all.
